Festival Fun for Dunkirk and Lenton

Local people, organisations and businesses have got together to organise a community festival on Lenton Recreation Ground on Saturday 2 June from 12 noon.

Local people, organisations and businesses have got together to organise a community festival on Lenton Recreation Ground on Saturday 2 June from 12 noon.

There will be fun in all shapes and sizes at traditional stalls, a play tent, a bouncy castle and a plate smashing contest. People at the festival can throw wet sponges at local dignitaries, have their face painted, watch the circus performers or follow one of the History Society's tours of the area. There will be stalls and displays to browse around and refreshments available. The police will also be showing off their diving unit, and the Fire Brigade will demonstrate the dangers of chip pan fires.

An impressive raffle at the bargain prize of 10 pence a go offers prizes such as tickets to see Notts County Cricket team, an electronic organizer, a lunch for two, tickets to the Playhouse Theatre and tickets to the Savoy Cinema, among many other prizes generously donated by local businesses.

The Festival has been put together by volunteers and organisations from throughout the area, including local churches, Lenton History Society, Lenton Community Association and Lenton Care Link. The event is being co-ordinated by the Dunkirk and Lenton Partnership Forum.

Miriam Hale, one of the organisers of the event, said, "It is a wonderful opportunity for the whole community to come together and have a fun day on the local park. There has been a lot of enthusiasm for the festival and we are delighted with the response from local organisations and businesses. The day itself will show that the local community is vibrant and resourceful with a good sense of fun."

Any proceeds raised by the Dunkirk and Lenton Partnership Forum on the day will be put into a fund to enable another event to take place next year. The organisers hope that they will be able to build a bigger and better festival in the future.
